Real Talk: The Story of my aunt
It is about my own aunt in Madurai. She is 62 years old, has been diabetic more than 15 years and diagnosed with breast cancer last year. When she was undergoing chemo, she lost weight quite fast, and those were days when she felt weak. In the beginning, we were not sure about what to cook her, we found everything too spicy, too oily, or too plain. The first few attempts (and a couple of tears) took us to a rhythm. Her savior was simple South Indian food, made fresh with less usage of spices. Her breakfast consisted of soft as Ragi idli in a chutney of coconut (no Chilli) and her dinner consisted of light moong dal khichdi and ash gourd. The key information was: Light foods, water and mild taste.
🙏 My Thoughts
Eating during chemotherapy should never make your loved one feel overwhelmed.
The key is ease, balance and nourishment.
This meal plan smoothly blends into South Indian home-style homely cooking with the requirements of a diabetic & recovering body.
It’s food from the heart, food that mends, strengthens and offers peace.
